Has Instagram replaced the Agent?

Sometimes it feels safer not to mention the elephant in the room, just in case everyone suddenly accepts its existence and blithely watches it crush you to death.

Has Instagram replaced the need for Creative Agencies??

I listened to a podcast recently where a producer casually admitted that if her preferred makeup artist was unavailable she would just scour instagram. There are currently 2.4 billion active users on Instagram. Thats a lot of pages to scour...! There's obviously a lot of choice on Insta but there's a lot of risk.

I also believe this to be the case with recommendations. The recommendation might be amazing. Job done! BUT the other artist might be booked or they might not have public liability insurance. Do they own the kit your shoot needs or do they have to hire? Are they going to request GST and Superannuation payments? Are there commercial conflicts-especially for photographers/motion? And are you happy to trust YOUR reputation on this talent?

Let’s face it, Creative Agencies are thick on the ground in NSW & VIC for a reason. But what if you’re looking to shoot out of state and what if you want to use some fresh talent? What if you need to mix up your go-to list?
